How anonymous Secret Santa questions work

  1. 1. Open your match page. Everyone in a HintDrop draw gets a private link by email. It shows who you are buying for, and has a box to ask them a question, anonymously.
  2. 2. Type your question. Ask anything that helps you choose: a favourite colour, tea or coffee, foods they avoid. Press Ask and it is sent.
  3. 3. Your match answers. They get an email saying their Secret Santa has a question, with a button to answer it on their own page. The email and the page only ever say "your Secret Santa".
  4. 4. You get the answer. We email you their answer, and it shows under your question on your match page.

Up to 5 questions a day. Nobody needs an account to ask or answer.

Good questions to ask your Secret Santa match

Short questions that rule things in or out, without sounding like you know them well:

  • Tea or coffee?
  • Any foods or ingredients you avoid?
  • What colours do you love having around you?
  • Is there a shop you could spend hours in?
  • Do you prefer things to use, or things to keep?
  • What's something you keep meaning to buy for yourself?

Questions about asking anonymously

Can I ask my Secret Santa match a question without them knowing it's me?

Yes. On HintDrop your question goes to your match from "your Secret Santa", never from you. Your name and email are not shown to them, in the email or on their page.

How does my match answer?

They get an email with your question and an Answer it button. It opens their own private Secret Santa page, where they type a reply. Nobody needs an account to ask or answer.

How do I get the answer?

By email, as soon as they reply. The answer also shows under your question on your match page.

How many questions can I ask?

Up to 5 questions a day, each up to 500 characters. Enough to narrow it down without flooding their inbox.

Can my match ask me questions too?

Your own Secret Santa can ask you questions the same way. They show on your page under Questions from your Secret Santa, and you answer them there. You never find out who your Santa is either.

Does it work for office, family and friends draws?

What should I ask my Secret Santa?
