Account deletion
Delete your HintDrop account
You can delete your account and the data linked to it at any time, in the app, on the web, or by emailing us.
In the HintDrop app
Tap your profile picture in the top right, choose Account, and tap Delete account. Confirm when asked. Your account is deleted straight away and you are signed out.
On the web
Sign in at hintdrop.app/account and choose Delete account.
Without the app
If you no longer have the app or can't sign in, email support@hintdrop.app from the email address on your account, with the subject "Delete my HintDrop account". We will confirm the request and delete the account, and let you know by email once it is done.
Deleting some of your data
You can delete individual things at any time without closing your account:
- A hint or a list: open it in your Hints and choose Delete.
- A comment: tap the ✕ on your comment.
- A message: long-press your message in the app, or hover over it on the web, and delete it.
- A contact or date: remove it from your Circle or Calendar.
- Profile details: edit or clear them in your profile and Settings.
To have any other data deleted, email support@hintdrop.app from the email address on your account and tell us what you'd like removed. Deleted items are removed straight away; see below for what happens to messages in shared chats.
What gets deleted
- Your login, profile and profile photo
- Your hints and hint lists
- Your contacts and important dates
- Your comments, reactions and feed activity
- Your circles, group gift memberships and chat memberships
- The device details used to send you notifications
What stays
- Messages you sent in shared chats stay visible to the other people in those chats, but are no longer linked to your account.
- Group gift pots you organised stay available to the other members, without you listed as organiser.
- If you opted in to marketing emails, your name and email address stay on our mailing list so you keep receiving them. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or by emailing support@hintdrop.app.
- We may keep limited records where the law requires it, as described in our Privacy Policy.
